What is Bachata?

This dance form is an example of a partnered dance. In classes a choreographed sequence is generally taught, but in practice it is an improvised dance.

A popular dance rythm from the Dominican Republic. Often typified by a jangly guitar line and simple arrangements played in 4/4 time. The basic bachata move is a side to side step with the partner held close. The dancers change directions after the fourth beat. Does not obey clave.
